OBITUARY: Margaret Strainic, 83


Margaret Helen (Helzerman) Strainic, age 83, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti surrounded by family members. She was born on March 22, 1933 in Willis, Michigan, the daughter of Arthur J. and Anna Catherine (Hodgkin) Helzerman. Margaret graduated from Lincoln Consolidated High School in 1951. She married David Stralnic on May 31, 1958 and he preceded her in death in 2011. She worked for the University of Michigan and for Parke Davis in Ann Arbor. Margaret was a member of Stony Creek United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti where she was active in the choir and served at the chicken dinners. She was an avid gardener and will be remembered for her beautiful yard of flowers. Margaret was devoted to the Lord, honoring Him with the kindness and love that she shared with all who knew her. She is survived by four brothers, Calvin (Nancy) Helzerman of Barryton, John Helzerman of Indian River, and Lynwood (Jean) Helzerman and George (Sandra) Helzerman of Ypsilanti; brother-in-laws Daniel (Virginia) Stralnic of Florida and Gerald Gray of Beaverton; and several adoring nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by their son, Wade Stralnic, her brother Arthur,sisters-in-law Josephine and Mary Ann Helzerman and her sister Anna Gray.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 2-8pm at the Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Stony Creek United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti, with funeral service at 11:00 am, with Pastor Reed Swanson officiating. Burial will follow at Marble Park Cemetery in Milan. Contributions may be made in Margaret’s memory to Stony Creek United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank Cindy Beard and the staff and Margaret’s friends at American House in Ypsilanti for their kindness.
