Cameron Moran is an 18 year old senior at Dundee High School. He participates on the swim team and says he got into swimming at the age of 9 because, “he thought Michael Phelps was pretty cool”. He has been swimming ever since and has really enjoyed the sport. He pretty much devotes himself to swimming and doesn’t participate in any other sports at school.
Cameron swims for the Southern Michigan Aquatics Club and has won multiple All State awards. In addition, he is a member of the National Honor Society and has received academic achievement awards.
Cameron lives with his mom, his dad, his grandmother and his younger brother, Connor. Although he doesn’t have a special favorite team, he likes the Lions.
In school, Cameron has a 3.9 GPA. His favorite subject is Math because he enjoys problem solving and because math challenges him. His plans for the future include attending the University of Illinois in Chicago. Cameron will be able to continue swimming in college as he will be attending the university on a swimming scholarship. He will focus his education on engineering and then he states he wants to, “find a nice home out West”.
Upon reflection, Cameron indicates that when he first started swimming he had no idea of the impact it would have on his life. Most 9 year olds are not thinking very far into the future. When asked for his advice for other students deciding whether to join in sports he states, “I never knew my sport could give me this many opportunities. That’s why you need to give it a chance. How will you know if you like it if you never try it?”
