Talons Out Honor Flight Mission 14 Sends 1,000th Veteran to Washington D.C.

Press release

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (August 23, 2018) – Talons Out Honor Flight flies again on September 15, crossing a major milestone with their 14th Mission.
With 83 veterans scheduled to fly, Talons Out will have honored more than 1,000 veterans since their first flight in October of 2013. Every flight is filled with veterans who are humble heroes that have amazing stories and this flight is no different. In fact, the 1,000th veteran to be confirmed on flight is 100-year-old veteran, Master Sergeant Julius Gimesky.
Gimesky served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the 5th Bombardment Group stationed in Hawaii and was present at Pearl Harbor during the attack by the Japanese. The 5th Bombardment Group suffered devastating casualties and equipment damage during the Japanese surprise attack at Hickam Field and other targets on the island of Oahu on December 7, 1941. Despite the damages sustained by the unit, the group’s aircrews went on to become the first U.S. military forces to take to the air following the attack. The unit left Hawaii in November of 1942 and were then stationed in Guadalcanal, where they were tasked with the disruption of the Japanese supply ships. Mr. Gimesky served his country from 1940-1945.
“Honoring our southern Michigan heroes is what Talons Out does. Being able to share these veterans’ stories and their part in history with our communities is an absolute privilege. “said Vice President Deb Hall.
The community is invited to the Air Zoo on September 14 to welcome these heroes home. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Veterans are expected to arrive around 9:00 pm.
Mr. Gimesky is available for interviews but due to his age, we ask that you schedule any visits through his son James at 734-612-4250
Talons Out currently has media seats available on both their September 15 and October 27 flights. If your media team would like to fly with these heroes, Please contact Bobbie Bradley at the number below.
