The 4H Milan Easy Riders club was established in 1973. Bob and Carole Heist and were the leaders along with Elsie Jordan. Horse practice started out on Plank Road with a tiny outdoor arena. Eventually they were allowed by the city to build an announcers booth and new arena which is now called the Sanford Rd. Horse Park. Bob’s role was keeping the kids in line and of course the equestrian drill team.
Carole and Elsie worked with every kid in the club teaching them the do’s and don’ts of handling a horse.  Being mainly a horse club riding meets were mandatory but they still had members showing other animals such as pigs, dogs, rabbits, chickens and even cats.  Since their passing, several of the Easy Rider Alumni members have continued on the family tradition. They continue to have riding meets at the Sanford Rd. Horse Park, May through September. Indoor meetings are at the Monroe Bank and Trust October through April on the 3rd Thursday of the month.  Members enjoy doing crafts and many other activities which they can enter at fair each year. The Club welcomes and encourages anyone interested to get involved in the 4-H program.  Feel free to contact the Milan Easy Riders at 734-972-7856 or the Monroe County 4-H extension office for more information in joining 4-H today.
