Salute to our local veterans

By Milan Eagle media

Originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the signing of the agreement that ended World War I at 11:00 A.M., November 11, 1918, this federal holiday was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. At that time, it became a day to honor all the men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United States. Each year, special ceremonies are held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
The Milan Eagle tries to honor a veteran with each addition and if we don’t honor a veteran we share information on events or organizations that honor and provide benefits to our men and women of the military branches and their families. Here’s a few veterans we’ve honored and a few organizations we’ve shared: Freedom Center (independent non-profit Michigan organization, not associated with the USO, two lounges are located at DTW), Fisher House (where family love is the best medicine), Talons Out Honor Flight and American Legion Post 268.
• The Eagle’s Veteran of the Month (ARMY) June 2013 Michael Mitchell
• The Eagle’s Veteran of the Month (NAVY) March 2014 Tom Dupuis
• The Eagle’s Veteran of the Month (ARMY) January 2015 Ralph Hargrave
• The Eagle’s Veterans of the Month (Marines) July 2015 Renee and Pat Humes
• The Eagle’s Veteran of the Month (Air Force) May 2017 Bob Elliott
Thank you to not only these, but all of our veterans for your dedication and your service to our country.
