Who hasn’t experienced a case of nerves before taking an examination that might affect the next chapter in their life?   To deal with an obvious stressful time, the students, who are members of Milan High School’s Lifesavers group, addressed the problem their fellow students were facing.
Their service project consisted of creating “Stress Reduction Bags” for the 11 th grade students who would be taking the SAT testing session.
The bags contents were purchased with funds from the University of Michigan’s Depression Center’s “Peer2Peer” program and funds from the LifeSaver’s bake sale fundraiser.
Inside the bag, testers found a reduction worm, good for fidgeting with, peppermint “Lifesavers” that is a natural muscle relaxant, colored pencils and items to color that reduce stress, as a new study has revealed coloring can help to improve mood, reduce stress and boost creativity.  Also included, was an information sheet on how to contact Ozone House staff, who are able to talk through difficulties.
Counselor and support staff, Mark Rodan, said the group’s goal was to relieve fellow students stress. He said, group members also strive to be, “welcoming to attendees and promote a welcoming atmosphere at the school.”
